Nurturing a greener future
As we look to the future, we know that the health of our population is inextricably linked to the health of our environment. Climate change is not a distant threat, it is a present and growing challenge that affects the wellbeing of our communities, the resilience of our services, and the sustainability of our healthcare system.
We are committed to delivering the national ambition of a Net Zero NHS by 2040, and to doing so in a way that reflects the unique needs and opportunities of our rural and coastal communities. Whether it’s through the design of our new Women and Children’s Hospital, the expansion of virtual care, or the creation of green spaces for healing, we are embedding sustainability into everything we do.
Our new Green Plan 2025-2028 sets out our roadmap for the next three years as we continue our journey towards Net Zero Carbon. It builds on the progress we’ve already made from reducing emissions in clinical care through adopting virtual wards and virtual outpatient appointments, making our estate more energy efficient by adopting LED lighting and using digital transformation to allow our services to be delivered in a more sustainable way. It reflects our role as a leading anchor institution in Cornwall, working collaboratively across the Integrated Care System to deliver greener and more sustainable healthcare.
