Royal Cornwall Hospital car park changes and roadworks February to April 2024

Posted on:

As we prepare our site for the new Women and Children’s Hospital, we can expect significant parking and access disruption, with limits on parking spaces. There are also likely to be delays getting in and out of the car parks, particularly at the start and end of the day.

Please see information below for a full breakdown of the works.

Gravel Pit Staff Car Park Extension

Work is taking place between February and July to create 176 more spaces. It will be completed in two halves: 50% by May; 100% by July.

S2 Staff Car Park to become Visitor Car Park

Work to re-allocate part of the S2 car park for visitors and patients is taking place between February and April, including associated works and a new pay machine and barriers. Staff car park exit (from S2) to be retained. When the car park opens to visitors and patients, it will be renamed Car Park D.

Mermaid Centre

The Mermaid car park is being re-lined in February and March to create five fully accessible spaces, four standard bays and an ambulance bay.

Northern Access Road

Work starts on the Northern Access Road (NAR) in March 2024 until March 2025. A new road layout will be designed to create a main “artery” route into and out of Langarth. The road will be widened, and new permanent pathways will be created.

Visitor Car Park 1C

In Visitor Car Park 1C (also known as the overflow), 50 fully accessible parking spaces will be created in the central lane in March and April 2024. An accessible bus stop will also be built to accommodate new shuttle service. The car park will be renamed Car Park C.

Parking next to Emergency Department

Accessible parking to be reinstated in the car park next to ED in March, when the contractors’ compound is moved.

Partial closure of Car Park 1B

Car park 1B will be re-surfaced and re-lined in March and April. Once complete, it will reopen as Car Park B.

Rosemullion Car Park

The Contractors’ compound is being moved in March from the ED car park, closing the car park adjacent to the Dental School and Rosemullion House.
