How PocketTalk is improving communication in maternity care

When a family arrives in maternity and English isn’t their first language, even simple conversations can feel overwhelming and in an emergency, those barriers can become frightening. To help in those moments, our maternity teams are now using PocketTalk, a small handheld device that provides real‑time, two‑way translation in over 90 languages.

Calling Cornwall’s youth to join our Young Person’s Patient Council

RCHT is setting up a new Young Person’s Patient Council, and would like to hear from children from the age of 10 and young adults (up to the age of 25) keen to make a difference and help shape the future of health services at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

Anyone who is interested to be part of the Young Person’s Patient Council can sign up to attend an introductory event on Wednesday 12 November 2025 from 4pm to 6pm at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. Food and refreshments will be provided, and travel costs can be covered too, to ensure the event is accessible to everyone to wants to attend.
