New charity funded ‘Living Skies’ displays help calm patients at the Mermaid Centre

Posted on:

Patients undergoing breast ultrasounds at Royal Cornwall Hospital are benefiting from a calmer environment thanks to new Living Skies™ ceiling displays, as part of a refurbishment project at the centre, funded by Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity’s Mermaid Centre Fund and The Duchy Health Charity.

Installed in all four ultrasound scanning rooms in The Mermaid Centre, the displays mimic skylights with images of skies and trees, helping to reduce anxiety and provide a distraction for patients undergoing scans, biopsies and other potentially stressful procedures.

Sarah Zee, Advanced Nurse Practitioner Breast Caresaid: “Many patients come to us feeling anxious, particularly if they are undergoing procedures in our scanning rooms. The Living Skies displays help create a more calming and welcoming environment, making a real difference to the patient experience.”

The project has been partially funded through The Mermaid Centre Fund, which receives support from events such as the charity’s popular Pink Wig Mermaid March which is taking place in Falmouth on Friday 7 August. The event raises vital funds for projects that benefit patients accessing the breast care service in Cornwall.

Book your ticket for the Pink Wig Mermaid March today and help make a difference for patients when they need it most.
