Podcast shines a light on talking to young people about drugs and alcohol

Posted on:

As Cornwall prepares for a busy summer of festivals, events and school holidays, the latest episode of The RCHT Podcast is encouraging parents, carers and trusted adults to start open conversations with young people about drugs and alcohol.

In ‘Drugs and Alcohol: Don’t Be Afraid to Have the Conversation‘, the discussion focuses on how early, honest conversations can help young people make informed choices and stay safe when faced with peer pressure or unfamiliar situations.

The episode, with Chantelle Hellier, Safeguarding Practitioner for Children, and Jodie Lynes, YZUP Team Leader at WithYou Cornwall, highlights that talking about drugs and alcohol does not encourage risky behaviour. Instead, it helps build trust and ensures young people know where to turn for reliable information and support. It also explores the importance of recognising risks, looking after friends, and seeking help quickly if something does not feel right.

As the summer holidays approach and thousands of people attend events across Cornwall, the podcast serves as a timely reminder that prevention starts with conversation.
