“We are stronger together” – PNA-UK Officers Represent Cornwall in a Diaspora Leaders Conference in London

RCHT’s Clinical Practice Educator and Philippine Nurses Association UK Chairman Emeritus, Michael Joel Apas, and Renal Unit Staff Nurse Febbom Mandawe, represented Cornwall in a recent event for diaspora organisations, which was held in London.
This 2-day activity was organised by the Ugandan Nurses and Midwives Society (DUNMS) and the Ghana Nurses Association-UK.
The event was well attended across different Ethnic Minority Networks from across the country. The conference was also attended by the diaspora leaders from Pakistan, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Jamaica, Malawi, British Sikh Communities, India, Arab Region, Uganda, Tibet, and Philippines.
Allies and leaders across NHS and different Union Officers were also there, such as RCN and Unison.
Speaking about his involvement in the event, Michael said:
“What a wonderful opportunity to be with the different leaders who share the same passion in supporting our Global Workforce Majority (GMW). Being a part of this myself, I learned a lot in terms of the themes that emerged within the Ethnic Minority Networks, including how to support our staff, and most importantly to know that support and organisations exist. This event helps to unite us all in celebration of the contribution of the EMN in the NHS as a whole. Indeed, we are stronger together.”
The new Chairman for PNA-UK in Cornwall, Febbom, also spoke of the event, adding:
“The resilience and diversity within diaspora communities enrich societies, while their collective experiences and expertise help address challenges and promote understanding in an increasingly interconnected world. I am still in awe having a chance to witness this grand event. One important thought to ponder from the discussion is not to remain in your own bubble. Encourage yourself to step outside your comfort zone, seeking new experiences, and exploring broader perspectives.”
