Posted on:

Almost 200 people attended the first Emerging Healthcare Technologies Symposium both online and in-person. The event was the first of its kind held in Cornwall. Clinicians, academics and technology companies came together at the scientific event hosted by the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The aim of the symposium was to welcome all of these disciplines to encourage collaboration, drive and support regional research, and open up the Southwest to developing the healthcare technology market for the benefits of our patients across our region and beyond.

Presentations were given by world leading experts in medical robotics, innovative researchers and industry experts. 18 poster abstracts were submitted, three of the authors gave oral presentations. Attendees were given the opportunity to vote for their favourites and prizes were awarded. A panel of consisting of the presenters, industry partners and NHS colleagues discussed Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

Nine biotech providers provided interactive demonstrations for attendees of the latest healthcare technology.

Mr James Clark, Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon, was the visionary behind the Emerging Healthcare Technologies Symposium, James wanted to show that we are open for business locally and welcome industry partners to a region that is research focused and committed to supporting high quality clinical trials within the technology device sector.  He has been instrumental in bringing this ambitious idea to life.

Bianca Mills, Head of Research and Development, said “I am truly thrilled by the success of the inaugural Emerging Healthcare Technologies Symposium. The energy in the room was palpable, and it was inspiring to see so many brilliant minds, from across the country and beyond, come together with a shared passion for driving healthcare innovation.

The potential benefits of this event are vast. It has not only sparked meaningful conversations but also laid the foundation for partnerships that will undoubtedly lead to significant advancements in healthcare technology. The collaborative spirit fostered here has the power to transform how we deliver care, both locally and nationally.

I believe the impact of this symposium will be felt for years to come, as it positions our region as a leader in healthcare innovation and opens doors for ground-breaking research and development. I look forward to seeing the tangible outcomes of the connections made on the day.”
