Working with accessibility advisors to improve access for all
At Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust (RCHT) we’re committed to providing accessible care and services for all our patients, staff and visitors.
As part of this commitment, we set up an Accessibility Advisory Group in early 2022 to ensure that everything we design at the hospital is accessible for all.
The group is led by the Major Capital Projects Team and supported by members of the disAbility Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Alliance. Together with their broad range of lived experiences from hearing loss, visual impairment and hidden disabilities to wheelchair users and those with memory loss or dementia, the group strives to ensure that the major construction projects and refurbishments happening across our sites are designed to be accessible to all.
Carolyn Garman, Head of Communications and Engagement for Major Capital Projects explains: “We know there’s always more we can do to make our hospital more accessible for everyone, but we’ve made a great start and, importantly, the level of trust and desire to get things right continues to grow strong.
“Our thanks to everyone who has been a part of our group, and we look forward to continuing our work to provide outstanding care and facilities across our hospitals.”
