New Scanning Suite and Oncology Unit in Cornwall picks up second regional construction award

An outstanding building project from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) has won its second award of the year.

The new Trelawny Scanning Suite and Lowen Ward project has already picked up the top structural award at the Concrete Society Southwest Regional Awards back in February. Now, this major project has won Project of the Year (over £5m) at the prestigious Michelmores Property Awards.

Roberta Fuller, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust’s Associate Director for Major Capital Projects, together with the project team from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and BAM, celebrate their win.

Roberta Fuller, Associate Director, Major Capital Projects at RCHT, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win another award for our state of-the- art Trelawny Scanning Suite and Lowen Ward project. This incredible new building provides improved scanning facilities and increased bed capacity for some of our most vulnerable patients. This is another excellent example of how our hospital in Truro is transforming to provide an exception environment for both patients and staff. Sincere thanks are due to Lewis Saundry, RCHT Project Manager for all his hard work; our construction partner BAM, and everyone involved in this project.”

The Michelmores Property Awards celebrate the best property, development, and construction projects in the southwest, and are recognised in the construction industry as being one of the most prestigious regional awards to win. The awards ceremony, with over 400 guests but just 11 winners, took place at Sandy Park Conference Centre, in Exeter on Thursday 27 June 2024 .

The Trelawny Scanning Suite and Lowen Ward project is also shortlisted for two more awards – the national Construction News Awards and the Constructing Excellence Southwest Awards, which are both announced in July.
