About this service
The occupational therapy service helps patients develop, recover and maintain the functional skills needed in their daily life and work.
Our aim is to help our patients lead full and satisfying lives as independently as possible. Our team play an important role in helping patients prepare to leave hospital and return home. We also run an outpatient service and limited specialist paediatric services at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
Occupational therapists carry out assessments and rehabilitation to help our patients with activities such as:
- Washing and dressing
- Getting into and out of furniture
- Kitchen activities (cooking, cleaning etc)
- Feeding
- Mobility while carrying out functional activities
We may also identify equipment that allows a patient to be safe and as independent as possible at home.
The Occupational Therapy department also provides specialist assessment and treatment for patients with lymphoedema or lipoedema.
