Parking and access – constraints during construction

Parking and access – constraints during construction

Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro

When arriving at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, please be aware that there some current, and upcoming constraints around parking and access due to ongoing estates works and construction work to the front of the hospital where the Cardiac outpatient department will be relocated at the end of 2026.

There are 50 fully accessible parking bays in Car Park 1C – across the main road from the hospital (on the corner opposite the Microbiology Building). Although further from the hospital, access is largely level. The Northern Access Road (NAR) and re-prioritisation of traffic is now complete. Accessible parking also remains in Car Park 1A opposite Trelawny Main entrance.

Eye Unit, Tower Block, and Princess Alexandra Wing

There is no direct access to the Tower Block via the Main Tower Entrance at this time.

Alternative entry routes are via the Link Corridor Entrance, and via the Eye Unit Entrance behind the Tower Block and to the east of the Emergency Department. (The Eye Unit entrance is well signposted as you approach the Tower block area in a vehicle.)

There are 6 fully accessible parking spaces in the area to the east of the Emergency Department (which may be used for ambulance overflow, if required). There are a further two designated (non-compliant) blue badge parking bays, additional short stay parking spaces, and drop-off zones along the approach to the Eye Unit Entrance.

There are 10 accessible parking bays and six drop off spaces outside the front of the Princess Alexandra Wing.

Link Corridor (north side)

There is often a temporary mobile scanner located on the north side of the Link Corridor entrance across the accessible parking bays.

Alternative accessible parking for the Link Corridor entrance is located either on the south side of the Link Corridor in the area adjacent to the Emergency Department, or a few metres away from the north entrance to the Link Corridor, outside the Sunrise Centre.

Trelawny Wing and Dolphin House

The nearest accessible parking bays for Trelawny Wing can be found in Car Park 1A opposite the Trelawny Wing Main Entrance.

The small car park next to Dolphin House has two accessible parking bays. Should you not be able to park at Dolphin House, the nearest alternative is Car Park 1C (on the corner opposite the Microbiology Building).

North Buildings (including Alliance PET CT scanner, Diabetic and Endocrine Centre, and Cornwall Mobility)

We recommend all users park in Car Park 1C for appointments to the north of our site. PLEASE NOTE: Cornwall Mobility is not part of RCHT and parking on its site is STRICTLY for Cornwall Mobility staff and visitors only.

Mermaid Centre

The Mermaid Centre car park is currently out of use, while work continues to improve the receptio are and inner garden. (Usually, it has has five fully compliant accessible parking bays and a drop-off zone._ If you need to find alternative parking, please use Car Park 1C, across the road from the Microbiology Building, or try around the corner outside the Sunrise Centre.

Tenvennick Unit

There are two non-compliant accessible parking bays which have been allocated outside the Tenvennick MRI Unit.  There are no immediate alternatives if these are occupied.  Our recommendation would be to try to park in accessible parking areas outside ED and enter the hospital via the Link Corridor, or park in accessible bays in Car Park 1A at the front of the Trelawny Wing entrance where wheelchairs can be borrowed.

West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance

Construction of the new Outpatients Department at West Cornwall Hospital, is now complete.

We are aware that final works are still to be completed in the car park, where two accessible bays and two standard parking spaces are currently out of use. The hatched drop-off zone is also being re-signed to make it more obvious.

Please also note, that regular parking for patients and visitors is also available at St Erbyn’s car park, and Causewayhead Car Park, both approximately 200m from the hospital entrance.

We ask all users of West Cornwall Hospital to respect the residents living in the immediate vicinity and not to park in such as way as to block driveways or indeed to impede their own parking requirements close to their homes.

St Michael’s Hospital, Hayle

St Michael’s Hospital currently has no building works obstructing the accessibility of its facilities.
